On Monday September 16, the Bird Homestead and Meeting House Conservancy, in partnership with The Carver Center, welcomed 12 new students to the Fall 2024 Ford Winter Coastal Estuary Program. This is our second six-week course designed for area middle and high school students. This past spring, we celebrated our first group who successfully completed their course work and were commissioned as Ambassadors of the Estuary. The weekly after-school workshops include the history of the Blind Brook estuary, water quality of the estuary, shorebirds of the estuary, knots (and nots) of the estuary, flora and fauna of the estuary, and botanical illustration and clay creatures of the estuary. The workshops are offered Mondays from 4:15 to 5:30 PM at The Meeting House located at 624 Milton Rd. Next Monday will be led by David Abreu, Clean Water Advocacy Specialist for Save the Sound, followed on Sept. 23, by a Shorebird Walk with Central Westchester Audubon VP Christopher Mignone.
