Recently, we celebrated our 2nd Annual Happy Bird Day at the three propoerties that we manage at the Bird Homestead and Meeting House Conservancy. The day was a tremndous success with a heartwarming blend of the past, the present and the future of our historic and environmentally important properties.
Our co-sponsors Clay Art Center, Save the Sound, Longford's Own Made Ice Cream, Milton Point Provisions, Friends of Read Bird Sanctuary, Boy Scout Troop 2 of Rye, Historic Preservationist Paul Stainkamp, Scott Wenzel helped with the success of our Welcome Home lunch for the Bouton-Bird-Erickson family members who were able to return for the celebration of Henry Bird's 156th Birthday and the activities that were open to the general public.
Our Major Great Blue Heron Sponsor of the music portion of Happy Bird Day, Carpet Trends and the Rogers Family gave a generous donation so that we could hire the reknowned orchestra of Swing, The Scott Wenzel Big Band. We appreciate the emphasis on community support, which has been a tredemark of the "Carpet Trends Family" since 1956. Many many thanks to Robbie Rogers and all of the Carpet Trends Family for their support. During intermission, Representative George Latimer of the United States Congress, along with Board of Trustees Preisdent D. Carey, presented Paul Stainkamp with a beautifully handcrafted platter representing the estuary made by Clay Art Center Artist and Milton resident, Robin Henshel. Paul was recognized for his volunteer work since mid July to October, in the full restoration of the exterior front porch first and second floors.
